The Mission.
Day Won is a Community Partner and is part of the HOPE Prison Mentoring Coalition for the HOPE Prison Mentor Program. Day Won is entering the Men's Side of the Utah State Correctional Facility to Mentor Men & Boys who are being released from Prison. Day Won also volunteers in the Community; Specifically, the Pacific Islander Community, to disrupt the Pipelines that lead to Prison and/or getting involved with Gangs. They also are leading the way to empathy, understanding, and healing between traditional "Authorities" and Peers in the Community, which is a huge step towards systemic change and addressing the root causes of systemic racism and ignorance.
The Work.
The Men who launched this amazing organization, Day Won, are formerly incarcerated Community Members; This allows for Peer-Led Perspectives, which is missing from many Models of Care & Pipeline Disruption perspectives. Not only do they Mentor Inmates, both Men and Boys, but they also Mentor young Men within the Community. For example, they have held fundraisers for Community Members who want to play sports but wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise, which has led to completely transforming lives that are at-risk for gang involvement as well as Prison or early death due to systemic racism within marginalized and vulnerable communities.
The Impact.
Day Won is the LEADING ORGANIZATION that has been working with and training the Utah District Attorney's Office directly, in Peace + Healing Circles. Former inmates sit down with their sentencing Judges, Prosecuting Attorneys, Law Enforcement Officers, + Parole Officers to create understanding, empathy, + compassion between each person involved. The Healing that this has achieved so far is unmatched- This specific initiative is what opened the door for Day Won to LEAD the way into expanding the HOPE Prison Mentor Program into the Men's side of the Prison which will help reduce recidivism numbers and disrupt the cycles of trauma; Generational or otherwise. Day Won has also opened up the Peace Circle Training for members of the Community to learn and share with the World.

Year after year, Utah continues to have high levels of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, and gender-based discrimination, while also ranking as the worst state for women’s equality and having low levels of women’s leadership representation in nearly all domains, including politics and business. Although the needle has moved slightly in a few areas, with its current trajectory it will take two, three, or even four decades to make notable progress. It is time for Utah to embrace A Bolder Way Forward (BWF). When we lift Utah girls and women, we lift all Utahns!"

Bolder Way Forward is an Initiative that Journey of Hope, Inc. is currently a part of. Teaming up with Women from across the State of Utah, our Mission is to address the inequalities that Women in Utah experience that holds Women back from working in Leadership positions, receiving equitable pay, creating awareness about Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, creating a team of Male Allies to assist us in teaching awareness, and changing legislation that currently contributes to the inequality of Women.
